Pitt To The Point

The Innagural Year of Pitt's First Student Run News Show

Pitt To The Point is the University of Pittsburgh’s first student-run news show. The show is a 1-hour news/magazine show which airs on UPTV.com, Pitt to the Point’s website and Facebook pages, as well on WPCW (KDKA-TV) and KDKA-TV’s streaming platform CBSN. 2022 was the first year of Pitt To The Point and the show has gathered much success. While Pitt To The Point is a class, it is much more like a family and a work environment. We have to rely on each other. Our hard work makes our peers look better and our show look more professional.

I joined Pitt To The Point in its inaugural year and my final year at the University. I have taken on many roles within the show as a Digital Content Creator, Camera/Editor, and Segment Producer. While working within these roles, I’ve had to reach out to sources, film interviews, capture b-roll, edit packages, and be on air. Additionally, each Friday morning, as the show airs, I photograph the team as they put on the show, capturing my peers as we navigate a first for many of us.

Features

Students Conquering Cold Cases is a Pitt Club in which students work with detectives on unsolved homicide cases. As Clubbing at Pitt Segment Producer, I contacted and worked with the club, scheduled interviews, set up audio, filmed, and edited the segment.

For Pitt Dance Marathon, I was tasked with making a feature to play in the live 12-hour broadcast of the Marathon. My classmate Laura Stravach partnered with me on the project to put this together. For the interview, I lit, filmed, set up audio, and interviewed, the subject, Kevin Michael Smith. I also edited the feature using Laura’s B-roll and the videos and photos we received from students in PDM. In addition to filming B-roll, Laura also wrote an AV script and recorded VO.

Controlled Chaos is a Pitt Club in which students can take dance classes or audition for performances. The student club secured a spot opening for Flo Milli at the University’s annual Bigelow Bash. As Clubbing at Pitt Segment Producer, I contacted and worked with the club, scheduled interviews, set up audio, filmed, and edited the segment.

Pitt To The Point covered Pitt Football’s first Spring practice. As Pitt Sport’s Camera/Editor I shot and edited the package alongside Pitt Sport’s Reporter, Josh Feldman.

On Pitt To The Point, we featured, Kenny Pickett’s Pro Day performance at the UPMC Rooney Sport’s Complex. As one of the camera/editors on this segment, I filmed some of the B-Roll and edited the segment.
